Character limits by platform

We checked these limits against each platform's own documentation on 11 October 2026. Two couldn't be confirmed there, and the table says so. X Premium subscribers can write longer posts; the counter uses the standard 280 that applies to every account.

Why X counts differently

X weighs characters. Plain letters, numbers and most punctuation count as 1. Emoji count as 2, and so do Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters and the styled letters this tool makes. Every link counts as 23, however long it is. A 200-character post in bold can hit X's limit, so the counter checks X the way X does.

Keep your line breaks on Instagram

Instagram can collapse the empty lines between paragraphs, and a space at the end of a line can make it drop the break, so a neatly spaced caption turns into one block of text.

With "Keep my line breaks" switched on, the formatter removes spaces at the ends of lines and puts an invisible character (U+2800, a blank Braille pattern) on each empty line before you copy. Instagram then treats the empty line as content and keeps it. Some screen readers announce that character, so use one empty line between paragraphs rather than several.

Use styled text sparingly

These styles aren't real fonts. They're separate Unicode symbols, mostly from the block meant for math, that happen to look like letters. That's why they survive copy and paste, and also why they have real downsides.

  • Screen readers struggle

Many screen readers skip these symbols or read them one by one by their technical name. A fully styled post can be unreadable for blind and low-vision followers.

  • Search may not find it

To a search engine or platform search, ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ธ๐—ฒ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด is not the word marketing. Keep keywords, names and hashtags in plain text.

  • Some devices show boxes

Older phones and some fonts lack the rarer symbols and show empty boxes instead. Bold and italic are the safest choices.

  • Style a few words, not everything

Use a style for a short hook, a heading or one key phrase. Leave the rest of the post, links and prices plain.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make text bold on social media?

Social networks don't have a bold button for posts. Select the words in the box above, press Bold, and copy the result. The bold letters are Unicode symbols, so they stay bold when you paste them into LinkedIn, X, Instagram, Threads, TikTok or Facebook.

Where can I use these fonts?

Anywhere that accepts normal text: posts, captions, bios, comments and most name fields. Usernames and handles only allow plain letters, numbers and a few symbols.

Is the text formatter free?

Yes. There's no account, no signup and no limit on how often you use it.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. Every style, the line-break fix and the character counter run in your browser. FeedHive never receives or stores what you type here.

Why don't some characters change?

Unicode only has styled versions of the plain letters Aโ€“Z and aโ€“z, and for some styles the digits 0โ€“9. Accented letters keep their accent on a styled base letter. Emoji, punctuation and other alphabets, such as Cyrillic, Greek or Chinese, stay exactly as you typed them.

Are these styles accessible?

Not very. Many screen readers skip the symbols or read them one at a time, and platform search may not match them to normal words. Use them for a few words, not whole posts, and keep important information in plain text.

How does the character counter count?

For X it follows X's published rules: each link counts as 23 characters, each emoji as 2, and styled letters as 2. For the other platforms it counts every character once, including spaces, line breaks and emoji. Platforms can count some symbols differently, so leave a little room when you're close to a limit.
