How to bold text on LinkedIn
The same works for italic, bold italic, underline and strikethrough. The bold and italic styles are sans-serif, so they sit naturally next to LinkedIn's own font.
- 1Write or paste your LinkedIn post into the box.
- 2Select the words you want in bold and press the Bold button. Press it again, or press Plain, to undo it.
- 3Press Copy text and paste the post into LinkedIn.
When formatting helps a LinkedIn post
LinkedIn shows only the first lines of a post before "โฆsee more". Formatting is most useful there, and in posts that people scan rather than read.
Bold the hook
A bold first line can make the opening stand out in the feed. Keep it short.
Bold a few key phrases
In a longer post, bold the takeaway of each paragraph so skimmers still get the point.
Use italic for asides
Quotes, titles and side notes read well in italic.
Leave names and keywords plain
Search and screen readers handle plain text best, so don't style names, companies, hashtags or links.
LinkedIn character limits
A LinkedIn post can be up to 3,000 characters, according to LinkedIn Help. The counter above also shows X, Instagram, TikTok, Threads and Facebook, which helps when you share the same post elsewhere.
Use styled text sparingly
These styles aren't real fonts. They're separate Unicode symbols, mostly from the block meant for math, that happen to look like letters. That's why they survive copy and paste, and also why they have real downsides.
Screen readers struggle
Many screen readers skip these symbols or read them one by one by their technical name. A fully styled post can be unreadable for blind and low-vision followers.
Search may not find it
To a search engine or platform search, ๐บ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ธ๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด is not the word marketing. Keep keywords, names and hashtags in plain text.
Some devices show boxes
Older phones and some fonts lack the rarer symbols and show empty boxes instead. Bold and italic are the safest choices.
Style a few words, not everything
Use a style for a short hook, a heading or one key phrase. Leave the rest of the post, links and prices plain.
Frequently asked questions
Can you bold text in a LinkedIn post?
Not with a button. LinkedIn's post editor has no bold or italic. Styling words with Unicode bold letters, as this tool does, is the usual workaround, and the formatting stays when you paste it.
Does bold text work in LinkedIn comments and my profile?
Usually, yes. The bold letters are ordinary Unicode symbols, so you can paste them into comments, your About section and your headline. Keep your name and job title plain so people can find you in search.
How long can a LinkedIn post be?
Up to 3,000 characters, according to LinkedIn Help. The counter above checks your post against that limit.
Is the text formatter free?
Yes. There's no account, no signup and no limit on how often you use it.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. Every style, the line-break fix and the character counter run in your browser. FeedHive never receives or stores what you type here.
Why don't some characters change?
Unicode only has styled versions of the plain letters AโZ and aโz, and for some styles the digits 0โ9. Accented letters keep their accent on a styled base letter. Emoji, punctuation and other alphabets, such as Cyrillic, Greek or Chinese, stay exactly as you typed them.
Are these styles accessible?
Not very. Many screen readers skip the symbols or read them one at a time, and platform search may not match them to normal words. Use them for a few words, not whole posts, and keep important information in plain text.
How does the character counter count?
For X it follows X's published rules: each link counts as 23 characters, each emoji as 2, and styled letters as 2. For the other platforms it counts every character once, including spaces, line breaks and emoji. Platforms can count some symbols differently, so leave a little room when you're close to a limit.
